AquaCloud Sensor Data Network
Our ambition is to build the world’s largest coastal monitoring network, while simultaneously addressing the challenges of standardizing and sharing environmental data from land-based facilities and from all other stakeholders willing to contribute their data.
The datasets are used to illuminate environmental changes over time. In this way, industry-generated data—combined with additional insights—contribute to identifying shifts in natural conditions that are already affecting or are expected to affect coastal industries in Norway. These datasets will also be vital for understanding the development and spread of algal and jellyfish blooms, and, in the long term, will support the development of improved early warning systems and enhanced situational awareness for both industry and authorities.
For the first time, comparable, standardized environmental data will be stored and made available for sharing (or sale).
Core Components:
- Data Sharing Network: A platform for sharing standardized data via the Sensor Data Standard, across stakeholders and within various segments (sea-based, RAS), including a data store to manage transactions such as ordering, tenders, uploads, and purchases of environmental data.
- IoT Data Ingestion: Reception of IoT data in a time series database with data transformation capabilities.
- Historical Data Storage: A storage solution for historical data, integrated into the services provided by the data sharing network and connected with the AquaCloud Data Platform.
- AquaCloud Integration: Integration with the AquaCloud Data Platform, including governance models for data access and data availability through the AquaCloud user interface.
Underlying Components:
- Generic Sensor Data Receiver: AquaCloud IoT-Hub, supporting both cloud-based and on-premise installations.
- Support for Manual Data Entry: Capability to input data from manual measurement series.
- Configuration Interface: A solution to simplify the onboarding of new sensors and modifications to the configuration of digital test facilities.
- Support for Service Providers: Enabling third-party developers to build services on top of AquaCloud, with distribution via the AquaCloud Data Platform, including integration with existing dashboards available to AquaCloud partners.
- IoT Hub for Aggregation and Redistribution: Collecting and redistributing time-series data from various locations, aligned according to the AquaCloud Sensor Data Standard. Must also support cloud endpoint data ingestion.
- Licensing Framework: License agreements for free (e.g., test/R&D) and commercial access to open-source components, along with supporting legal agreements for the “app store” ecosystem and AquaCloud integration.
- GitHub Repository: Providing access to AquaCloud Open Source Software Components (OSS).
